I was born and raised on our farm in Prairie County. I was fortunate to grow up with an older sister, a younger brother and a younger sister. We grew up in sports and 4H and with neighbors that kept track of us. And encouraged us. The current Prairie County Hospital was built in 1969. To me it has always been a modern facility. I was elected to the school board in 1987 and served there for the years our three kids went through graduation and off to college.
Our two youngest were born at PCH and soon after (around 1988) the hospital ceased the baby delivery business. The hospital and the clinic have been our center for care and personally has rehydrated me, observed me overnights and emergency stabilized my fractured lower leg. And they guided me with referrals to the specialists in Billings, Sidney, and Miles City. My Grandma Pehl spent 6 years and my Mom spent 5 years in the extended long term care. I have many friends who have been able to use - either emergency or long term - our facility. And I want it to exist and keep serving our county for years to come.
The last three expansions have been so important and I am glad I have been a part of it. We have a great staff of local people who have been a pleasure to support. Every two years we need to run a levy to support the hospital and that has passed - showing we have value. I have gone on here long enough and would summarize that this hospital is valuable because it has the staff, the facility, and the support of the 1200 county residents. I am proud to be a trustee.
